Botanical Journeys of Discovery

Author: Jakub Kocurek

Ilustrations: Kristýna Adámek Mlynaříková

This trail is designed for the public and tells more about the topic of botanical voyages of discovery. It focuses on the most famous Czech botanical discoverers, namely Kamel, Haenke, Roezl and Frič. By presenting specific living plants associated with them it describes some interesting episodes from their lives and research. It then places their work in the global context of the voyages of discovery that were made at the time in search of plants and the phenomenon of what were known as plant hunters. As the trail links people and plants, it runs mostly through the Na Slupi Botanical Garden and in Průhonice park. The trail takes approximately 5 hours, including the time to move between the botanical garden and Průhonice park.
