The monument on J. M. Marků Square in Lanškroun commemorates one of the most important Czech physicists and physicians of the 17th century, Jan Marek Marci (1595─1667).

Description:

The memorial to the prominent physicist and physician and Lanškroun native Jan Marek M. Marci was installed on the square in Lanškroun in 1995 on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of his birth. The stone monument with a metal likeness of Marci was designed by the academic sculptor Zdeněk Kolářský. There is also a memorial plaque near the memorial, located at the site of his birthplace. Marci was a physician, he also treated two emperors and other important personalities. He studied the decomposition of light, refraction and reflection, and was ahead of other great men of his time in many of his optical experiments and claims.
