Dating: 2012

Annotation:

On today`s Masaryk Square in Slané, in the house No. 111, in 1885 was born a prominent Czech zoologist and founder of Czech zootechnics František Bílek, the saver of the Przewalski’s Horse and the restorer of the breeding of traditional Czech Kladruber Horse.

Description:

František Bílek is one of the most important Czech zoologists. He became primarily an expert on horses and their breeding, and as a recognized expert in genetics, he devoted himself to the zootechnics of horses and other livestock. To this day, his name is above all associated with the saving of the Kladruber black horse, which he restored in Průhonice and later in Slatiňany, where they are still bred today. In addition to this breed, he also helped to save the Przewalski`s horse from extinction by founding the Czech breeding of this horse, which is now concentrated in the Prague Zoo and is one of the most successful in the world. The town of Slané commemorated its native in 2010 by placing a memorial plaque on his birthplace.
