Pharmacy At the Good Samaritan
Dating: 19th century
Annotation:
There is the original pharmacy At the Good Samaritan here, founded by the eminent chemist and pharmacist Ch. P. Erxleben in the 19th century. At the time it was one of the most modern pharmacies in the region and was also the site of important laboratory experiments conducted by its owner, who became famous for his new methods of bleaching textiles and for the production of sulphuric acid.
Description:
A pharmacy founded in the 19th century by the famous pharmacist and chemist Christian Polykarp Erxleben still operates in the centre of Lanškroun on Jan Marek Marků Square. This pharmacy was a modern and highly sought-after place in its time, which also included a private botanical garden where the Erxlebens grew medicinal herbs, and a chemical laboratory where Ch. P. Erxleben conducted his unique experiments and prepared medicines for his customers. Today, the pharmacy no longer has the original equipment or chemical laboratory, but is still in the same premises as before. The original equipment has been preserved and has been moved to the Žamberk City Museum, where it is possible to see it and learn information about pharmacy and medicine of the time.
