Monument to Jan Kašpar in Pardubice

2016
The monument to Jan Kašpar on Pardubice`s Míru Avenue commemorates the place of birth and adolescence of the first Czech aviator and aircraft engine designer, who grew up in this place, in the former Veselka Inn.

Since 2016, a bronze statue of Jan Kašpar, an aviator and aviator, has stood on Pardubice`s Míru Avenue, where he was born in 1883 and where he spent his childhood. The statue is erected precisely on the site of the former Veselka inn, which belonged to the Kašpar family from the beginning of the 19th century, and where Jan Kašpar grew. Here, in the courtyard of the building, he apparently tried to construct his first flying machines before he acquired the premises of the hangar at Pardubice train station. The statue is larger than life, with brief biographical information, and the bronze aviator is holding a propeller from a Blériot XI aircraft he purchased from the French aviator Blériot. With the Blériot XI, equipped with an engine of his own design, he made in 1910 the first flight with a powered aircraft in this country. The statue was placed at the initiative of the town of Pardubice and the Jan Kašpar Society, the author of the statue is the academic sculptor František Bálek.
