Museum of Nature of the Bohemian Paradise

21st century
In the countryside of the Bohemian Paradise, on the edge of the village of Prachov, towards the heart of the Prachovské skály Nature Reserve, there is a small nature museum showing the fauna and flora of the region.

On the site of the former Bohemian Paradise Hotel, in the Český Ráj Protected Landscape Area, near the Prachovské skály Nature Reserve, a small museum was established in 2002 with the aim of familiarising visitors to the area with local nature and to show in one place the plants and organisms that can be encountered in the surrounding forests, meadows and pastures. The museum was established on the occasion of the 20th Conference of the Czech Herpetological Society, which took place in 2002 here. It started with the creation of the first amphibian pond, where both common and endangered amphibian species of the area live. In addition to this "Great Pond", as the site is called, several other pools have since been created, including pools with artificially flowing water or glazed pools for observing animals in their natural habitat. In addition to ponds and pools, there are outdoor terrariums in the museum with various species of animals from the local area and other parts of the Czech Republic. There is also an outdoor entomological exhibition with a loggery and an insect hotel. There is also a small botanical garden with herbs and woody plants of the Bohemian Paradise and the so-called Pelíšek garden program, which is intended for small visitors. It tells the tale of Pelíšek, during which children learn how medicinal plants are used, what tree bark is for or what does and what doesn`t belong in the forest. Inside the museum there is a permanent exhibition with examples of the natural resources of the Bohemian Paradise, a geological and mineralogical collection, fossils, the history of the region and a special room called Frog Paradise, where in addition to photographs and zoology of Czech frogs there are also various objects reminiscent of frogs that the museum has managed to collect. You can visit the outdoor exhibitions on your own or with a guide; the inside of the museum only during opening hours.
