The monument is built from large blocks of sandstone that form a pedestal and a rectangle with a stone slab across it stands and all of this is topped with a stone globe. The rectangle has large inscribed plates on three sides of it. The front one says: ASPERA EST / MORS EORUM / QUI IMMORITALIS / OPUS PARANT / Cruel is / the death of those / who created / immortal work / ZÁKUPY MUNICIPALITY 2007. Both of the side plates are inscribed with two important names. The monument commemorates Stefan Schmid who was headmaster of the school for 31 long years from 1901 until his unexpected death in 1932. Schmid was able to secure new premises and move the school from its inadequate building in Bělá pod Bezdězem to Nové Zákupy in 1904 which greatly benefited the school`s development in the interwar period. The same plate bears the name of the second headmaster, Karel Bohutínský, who served from Schmid`s death until 1937.
On the opposite side of the monument there is a plate bearing the names dr. Vilém Sallač, who taught at the school from 1904 to 1912 and Hugo Konias, an important student who graduated from the school in 1911.
The forest between Zákupy and Kamenice has been cultivated since the beginning of the new millennium and this has to do with the renovation of small local monuments and the building of new ones, to commemorate the local history of forestry education. Individual memorials were connected in 2004 to form an educational nature trail. In the years 2009-2014 the municipality managed to restore the near arboretum as well.
